Bucharest WordPress Meetup News – November 2017

  1. Unlimited WordPress theme and plugin downloads to the Envato subscription plan;
  2. WordCamp Europe 2018 speaker applications open;
  3. WP-SpamShield plugin removed from the WordPress.org directory.

Unlimited WordPress theme and plugin downloads to the Envato subscription plan

Envato, the largest WordPress marketplace on the web, introduced something which was probably very much waited by all the clients: an unlimited subscription plan. For only $228 per year you can download everything you want, from themes, to plugins, assets, photos, ebooks, everything! However, the items support is not included in this subscription.

I’m curious to see how the authors’ revenue will change from now on. Who knows, maybe it’s a good moment for a new WordPress market place to be launched.

WordCamp Europe 2018 speaker applications open

The call for speakers for WordCamp Europe 2018 has been launched and it will remain open until January 15th. The Content Team put out a specific call for more technical talks at the 2018 event after reviewing the community survey results. It seems that more than 50% of those surveyed are developers while only 12% of them are business owners. The talks format remains the same 40-minute talks (30 min with 10 min for Q&A) as well as 10-minute lightning talks.

WordCamp Europe 2018 will be in June 14-16, in Belgrade, Serbia. See you there!

WP-SpamShield plugin removed from the WordPress.org directory

The Plugin Review Team has removed the WP-SpamShield plugin from the WordPress.org directory because of a violation of the guidelines and a possible miscommunication, they say.

WP-SpamShield is the second most popular anti-spam WordPress plugin after Akismet, and its removal from the directory created a lot of controversy. The authors announced that they will move all their plugins to a new host. You can read their statement about this here.

By the way, do you use any anti-spam plugin? Which one?
